Ed Brush received his PhD in chemistry from Penn State University, and BSc in chemistry from King's College of Pennsylvania. Ed teaches organic chemistry and introduction to green chemistry at BSU, engaging students through research, flipped classroom pedagogy, and Project-Based Learning (PBL). Ed was recipient of the 2024 John A. Timm Award from The New England Association of Chemistry Teachers, in recognition of distinguished contributions to chemistry education and for furthering the study of chemistry at all levels of education. He has served as co-PI on departmental and institutional projects at BSU, most recently, the NSF-CUR Transformations Project to integrate and scaffold research through the chemistry curriculum, and a BSU Academic Innovation Grant to integrate interdisciplinary PBL across the curriculum via connections to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Ed serves on the advisory board for the Green Chemistry Commitment and is a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) Committee on Environment and Sustainability (CES). His scholarship is focused on collaborative, interdisciplinary efforts to identify, understand and propose solutions to issues of environmental justice and climate justice. He co-drafted the ACS Environmental Justice Policy Statement, and has co-organized environmental justice symposia at ACS national meetings. A key goal is to identify and evaluate the needs of environmental justice community groups, and learn how we (BSU and ACS) can collaborate and contribute solutions.
